THS - Thompson High School freshman Zoe Moore made school history at the recent AHSAA 6A/7A Swimming State Championships in Huntsville, earning gold and silver medals in the Adaptive Aquatics Division and setting a new AHSAA state record.
Zoe captured first place in the 100-meter Women’s Backstroke, finishing with a record-breaking time of 1:40.73, and earned second place in the 50-meter Women’s Freestyle. Her performance marked a major milestone not only for her personally, but also for Thompson High School’s Swim & Dive program.
Zoe is a freshman at Thompson and competes as an Adaptive Athlete. By elementary school, Zoe had discovered competitive swimming and quickly proved that she belonged in the pool. Despite being told she might never swim, she was swimming independently within minutes of her first lesson and competing shortly after. After several years away from the sport due to limited access, Zoe returned to competitive swimming by joining the Thompson High School Swim & Dive Team.
“Zoe is one of the hardest-working athletes I have ever coached,” said Coach Cole Pruitt, Head Coach of Thompson Swim & Dive. “Her dedication, determination, and love for the sport set her apart.”
In addition to her success at the state level, Zoe has already qualified for Para Nationals and competed at the Hartford Nationals Move United competition, where she earned seven medals. She currently swims for both Thompson High School and the Lakeshore Foundation and aspires to become a Paralympian. A feature piece profiling Zoe and her incredible journey is scheduled for publication by Shelby Living later this winter.
