ALABASTER, AL – The trophy cases at Thompson Middle School (TMS) are going to need a bit more shelf space. On Wednesday, April 8th, the Thompson High School Performing Arts Center served as the backdrop for a historic celebration as the TMS Dance and Cheer teams were officially crowned the winners of the National School Spirit Championship Award.
In a special ceremony, representatives from Varsity Spirit traveled to Alabaster to personally present the teams with a prestigious national trophy, a commemorative banner, and a $5,000.00 check to be split between the two teams.
This new national award was established to recognize the middle school with the highest cumulative success across all categories during the national championship weekend. The "points race" was decided by the combined excellence of both teams. TMS reached the top of the leaderboard through several standout performances:
TMS Dance Team: Secured a 1st place National Championship in the Junior High Kick category.
TMS Cheer Team: Earned an impressive 4th place finish in the Traditional category.
Spirit Program Category: The Dance and Cheer teams competed together in the Spirit Program category, clinching a 3rd place finish.
With a national banner now hanging in their school and the title of the highest-scoring middle school in the nation, the TMS Cheer and Dance teams have set a new gold standard for school spirit in Alabaster.
