students at dog shelter

Alabaster, AL – The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) at Thompson Middle School showed their love for animals and community service by raising $1,600 for Joe Jackson's Dog World in Jemison, Alabama. The funds were collected through a fun and spirited Hat Day and Pajama Day held on Friday, May 16th.

Students and faculty participated by donating to wear hats and pajamas during the school day, with all proceeds benefiting the local dog rescue organization. The fundraiser was part of NJHS's ongoing efforts to give back to the community and support meaningful causes.

The charitable spirit didn’t stop there. On Saturday, May 17th, NJHS members rolled up their sleeves for their annual work day at Joe Jackson’s Dog World. Students spent the day bathing, walking, and playing with the dogs—giving the animals much-needed attention and care while learning more about animal welfare and volunteerism.

This year’s effort was organized under the leadership of NJHS sponsors Mr. Wilbanks and Mrs. Sawyer.

Joe Jackson’s Dog World, a no-kill rescue shelter, expressed gratitude for the generous donation and hands-on help. The funds will go toward food, medical care, and other vital needs for the dogs.

This event marks another successful chapter in Thompson Middle School NJHS’s commitment to leadership, scholarship, citizenship, and service.
