This week at TIS, our students took a deep dive into history of Earth Day and the vital importance of the environmental conservation.
To help them understand the real world impact of ecological disasters, our STEAM classes studied the 2010 oil spill. By exploring the challenges ecosystems face during such events, students gained a deeper appreciation for why protecting our oceans and wildlife is so critical.
To bring this lesson to life, we conducted the classic Dawn Dish Soap experiment. Students simulated, an oil spill in the classroom to see firsthand how difficult it is to clean up oil from water they then tested the power of dawn dish soap to see how effective it is at breaking down oil just like wildlife rescues do to save animals affected by spills. It was a powerful hands-on reminder that while preventing disasters is the goal, science and innovation, play a huge role in healing our Earth. Proud of our TIS students for becoming the next generation of environmental stewards.
