This week’s Staff Spotlight goes to our School Nurse, Mckenzie Franklin!
1. What inspired you to pursue a career in education? While I did not necessarily pursue a career in education, I have always had a heart for caring for others, and serving as the MVES nurse allows me to do that every day.
2. What’s your favorite part of working with students? My favorite thing about working with students is the opportunity it provides me to connect with and care for each student on a personal level. Each time a student visits the healthroom, I am able to know them more and provide the support they need. I love working with elementary students specifically, because of their fun personalities, honesty and humor.
3. If you weren’t in education, what do you think you’d be doing? If I were not a school nurse, I would want to be a stay at home mom. But in all reality, I would stay in the medical field, specifically working with children.
4. What’s one thing you love most about our school community? The thing I love the most about our school community is the familial aspect and the support. On any hard day at school, I can count on the students to brighten my day with smiles and jokes as they enter the health room. I can also always ensure teachers and staff will encourage and care for me.
5. Is there a particular moment in the school year you look forward to each year? My favorite day of the school year is the book character parade. The students put in so much thought and creativity to their books and costumes.
6. Do you have any hobbies or hidden talents?
While I do spend most of my free time chasing my sweet toddler, I enjoy reading, shopping, and going on walks when I can.
7. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? If I could travel anywhere, I would go to Costa Rica. I enjoy adventurous activities and the views are incredible.
8. What’s a food you can never say no to? My all time favorite food is a bacon cheeseburger (With a diet coke, of course.) I could eat that for a month straight and never be tired of it!
