This week's Staff Spotlight goes to Kindergarten Teacher, Julie Howanitz!
1. What inspired you to pursue a career in education?
I knew from an early age that I wanted to be a teacher. My grandmother was a teacher, and I loved spending time in her classroom, where I would spend hours playing teacher and pretending to have a class of my own. This sparked a love for teaching that has stayed with my throughout the years.
2. What’s your favorite part of working with students?
My favorite part of working with students is watching them learn and grow. I love seeing how excited they are when they learn something new. I love being a small part of their learning journey!
3. If you weren’t in education, what do you think you’d be doing?
If I were not a teacher, I would have been a nurse. I have always loved working with people. I hope to make a positive difference in the lives of others!
4. What’s one thing you love most about our school community?
I love being part of this community. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people. One of my favorite things is the way we support, encourage, and cheer one another on. It truly feels like a special place to be!
5. Is there a particular moment in the school year you look forward to each year?
I love experiencing the magic of the holidays through the eyes of my students. From visiting the pumpkin patch, scarecrow races on Fall Fun Day, to receiving a special delivery from Santa at Christmas. Seeing the joy and excitement makes the holidays such a special and enjoyable time!
6. Do you have any hobbies or hidden talents?
I love to bake and spend time with my family. I love to watch my oldest daughter on the soccer field and my youngest daughter dance! Seeing my children do the things they love brings me such joy!
7. What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you? I love solving puzzles and reading mystery books!
8. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would love to go to New York! I want to see the Rockettes perform!
9. What’s a food you can never say no to? I love anything sweet!
