This week's Staff Spotlight goes to Amy Martin, Pre-K Aide!
1. What inspired you to pursue a career in education?
I adored my Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Lively. I have wanted to be one ever since. I’ve always enjoyed working with young children.
2. What’s your favorite part of working with students?
I love watching the progression and growth in their confidence. It’s wonderful to watch a student go from wanting you to just do it for them, to being able to do it independently. After a little practice and encouragement, they see that they can do more than they realized they were capable of.
3. If you weren’t in education, what do you think you’d be doing?
I worked at a vet clinic in college, mostly as the receptionist. I think I would like to be a secretary or receptionist.
4. What’s one thing you love most about our school community?
The school fosters a welcoming environment. I appreciate the sense of unity and positive climate that exists among the different grade levels and the entire staff.
5. Is there a particular moment in the school year you look forward to each year?
I always enjoy Christmas at MVES. The kids love to experience the Elf in our room and the Santa Cams around the school. They love to see the PreK Gingerbread House in the hallways and the decorations in the classroom. It is a fun few weeks of school!
6. Do you have any hobbies or hidden talents?
I love to read!
7. What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?
After I had my first child, I took a break from teaching and stayed home for 15 years. While home, my friend, Heather Sabo (Kindergarten teacher at CVES), and I started an Invitation business called Inviting You Designs. We had a website and made invitations, Christmas cards, baby announcements, graduation announcements, labels, bag tags, etc. We even did home parties. It was a lot of fun!
8. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would love to visit Ireland one day.
9. What’s a food you can never say no to?
Chocolat
