This week's Staff Spotlight goes to 1st grade teacher, Lauren Phillips!
1. What inspired you to pursue a career in education?
I have always loved school, learning, and being creative, so education was the perfect place for me! When it came time to choose a major in college, I couldn't imagine myself doing anything else other than teaching students.
2. What’s your favorite part of working with students?
Obviously I love teaching them and seeing them make progress academically. It is so rewarding! But I absolutely love the hilarious moments and crazy things they say. They make me laugh and help me to remember to enjoy the little things in life. I love getting to know them and their personalities.
3. If you weren’t in education, what do you think you’d be doing?
This is so random, but if you have been to Southern Grind coffee shop in Orange Beach.....I would totally want to open one! It's all of my favorite things in one: brunch, coffee, and random little gifts and trinkets. So if anyone wants to give me the money to open one, I will totally give you free coffee for life!
4. Do you have any professional goals you’re working on this year?
I am currently participating in LETRS training and learning so much from it!
5. What’s one thing you love most about our school community?
My co-workers, coaches, and admin. The people here are seriously amazing! I have so many relationships that I am so thankful for. I also learn so much from others and I admire the way they work so hard to better our school.
6. Is there a particular moment in the school year you look forward to each year?
Polar Express Day! So much fun!!!!
7. Do you have any hobbies or hidden talents?
I am artistic and I can walk on my hands!
8. What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?
I went to Meadow View! Extra surprise: I don't know if he remembers.....but I fainted in Mr. Jones' class.
9. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I hate the cold so this is probably a bad idea, but I have never been on a trip to ski/snowboard and I want to.
10. What’s a food you can never say no to?
Basic answer, sorry. Chickfila!!!
