This week's Staff Spotlight goes to paraprofessional Cherri Hutto!
1. What inspired you to pursue a career in education?
I began volunteering when my own children started school and eventually I was asked to substitute and then offered a position in special education as a paraprofessional. I have always loved children and it seemed a natural fit. I have loved what I do ever since!
2. What’s your favorite part of working with students?
My favorite part of working with students is seeing the progress they make, not just academically, but even more so, emotionally, socially, and behaviorally. At the beginning of each year, I love getting to know a new group of students and working with Dupree to figure out what students need to help them grow in every way.
3. If you weren’t in education, what do you think you’d be doing?
If I weren't in education, I'm not sure what I would do professionally, but it would definitely involve working with people.
4. Do you have any professional goals you’re working on this year?
I think my only goals would be to do better, learn more, and be a positive influence in the lives of others.
5. What’s one thing you love most about our school community?
One thing I love most about our school community is the family atmosphere and camaraderie among us.
6. Is there a particular moment in the school year you look forward to each year?
The book character parade and parade of graduates are some of the things I look forward to every year.
7. Do you have any hobbies or hidden talents?
I don't have many hobbies, but I do like to cook and bake when I have time. I want to continue to learn how to grow sourdough starter and bake bread.
8. What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?
There's probably not anything very surprising about me, except maybe that my husband and I watch a lot of British television programs.
9. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would like to travel to Europe, especially Italy, France, Spain, and England. I took French in high school and I've always wanted to go there.
10. What’s a food you can never say no to?
I can never say no to tacos!
