staff spotlight

This week's Staff Spotlight goes to 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Lawrence.

1. What inspired you to pursue a career in education?

From the time I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I’ve always had a passion for helping others learn and grow. The impact that teachers can have on a child’s confidence, curiosity, and future pushes me to be the best for my students. I want to be someone who makes a positive difference in students’ lives every day.

2. What’s your favorite part of working with students?

My favorite part is watching students experience those “aha” moments when something finally clicks. Seeing their excitement and confidence grow when they understand a new concept makes the work incredibly rewarding.

3. If you weren’t in education, what do you think you’d be doing?

I could see myself running a coffee shop, planning party or wedding events, somewhere where I could still help others. I have thought about counseling, mentoring, or working in community outreach.

4. Do you have any professional goals you’re working on this year?

Yes, I’m currently working toward advancing my leadership skills while pursuing my graduate degree in Instructional Leadership.

5. What’s one thing you love most about our school community?

I love how supportive and collaborative our school community is. Teachers, staff, families, and students work together to create a positive environment where everyone wants to see students succeed.

6. Is there a particular moment in the school year you look forward to each year?

I always look forward to seeing students’ growth by the end of the year. It’s amazing to see how much they improve academically and personally from the first day of school to the last.

7. Do you have any hobbies or hidden talents?

I enjoy spending time with family, participating in church activities, singing, shopping, going to the beach, and watching my kids play sports.

8. What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?

Many people are surprised to learn that I have four kids ages 10 to 24, I am married to a pastor and help lead worship on Sundays, I have taught multiple grade levels from Pre-K through fifth grade, I was named after the Krystal Hamburger place (long story :) and I truly enjoy seeing students grow throughout the year and seeing those “lightbulb moments” are my favorite part of teaching!

9. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I love the Caribbean but have always wanted to travel to Paris or Italy for the cultural experience.

10. What’s a food you can never say no to?

I can never say no to hot Cheetos and a chocolate Hershey Bar :) I also like a good steak and potatoes or fried rice.
