This week's Staff Spotlight goes to 1st grade teacher, Elizabeth Fike!
1. What inspired you to pursue a career in education?
Teaching was the first thing I ever wanted to do when I was little. I played teacher with every doll and stuffed animal I owned. I had teachers who were passionate and made school interesting- and it made me want to be that for kids too. There’s something about a good teacher. You never forget them!
2. What’s your favorite part of working with students?
My favorite part of teaching is the unplanned moments- the laughs, the breakthroughs, the hugs. The relationships we build - it’s so special. You can be totally silly with kids and they are all in - I live for that!
3. If you weren’t in education, what do you think you’d be doing?
I would love to do two things. Number 1: Open a Petite Boutique. 2. Write children’s books! I love shopping, and I am tired of cutting all my pants. I love writing, so my dream is to be an author one day.
4. Do you have any professional goals you’re working on this year?
I am working on my National Board Certification.
5. What’s one thing you love most about our school community?
The one thing I love more than anything is the PEOPLE and our leadership. I’ve never felt more supported than I do here.
6. Is there a particular moment in the school year you look forward to each year?
I always look forward to special holidays and making memories with my students. I love doing all the activities and bringing the magic to the classroom. They are only in 1st grade once- so I think every opportunity should be special!
7. Do you have any hobbies or hidden talents?
I actually LOVE to workout. But I rarely have time or I am too tired. Most of my real workouts happen in the summer.
8. What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?
I am terrified of mascots dressed up in costumes. I need to see your face.
9. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would love to go to Italy. My husband's family is Italian. They make the best spaghetti and meatballs you’ve ever tasted. I would love to go there to sight see and EAT of course!
10. What’s a food you can never say no to?
French fries are my absolute weakness.
