We’re excited to introduce a new series this summer to help you get to know the newest members of our Meadow View team. Each week, we’ll be highlighting one of our new employees with a short Q&A. From fun facts to favorite hobbies, this is a chance to learn a little more about the people joining our school family.
Let’s get started!
This week, we are introducing Kindergarten teacher, Gracie Harrison!
What’s your role at Meadow View, and what are you most excited about this year?
Hi! I’m a kindergarten teacher here at Meadow View, and I am beyond excited to begin my very first year of teaching! I’m most excited to build a classroom family, create magical learning moments, and watch my little learners grow and shine throughout the year!
Where are you from, and what brought you to our school?
I’m from Maplesville Al! I was drawn to Meadow View because of its warm, welcoming community and its strong focus on student growth and creativity. The second I stepped into the building, I could feel the love for learning here—and I knew it was the right place for me!
How long have you been in education, and what inspired you to become a teacher/staff member?
I recently graduated from the University of Montevallo with a degree in Early Childhood Education, so this will be my very first year teaching in the classroom! I have always loved working with children and helping them discover their potential. I chose to become a teacher because I want to make a positive difference in children’s lives. I truly believe in the power of joyful learning and want every child to feel seen, heard, and celebrated. Teaching has been my dream since I was little, and I’m so excited to finally start living that dream.
What’s your favorite subject or part of the school day, and why?
Reading is my favorite subject to teach because there is something so special about seeing kids learn to read and celebrating them as they grow. I also LOVE morning meeting time in Kinder! It’s such a special part of the day when we all come together to greet each other, build community, and set a positive tone. Plus, I get to hear what’s on their little hearts and minds—so sweet!
Do you have a favorite teaching memory or moment that stands out to you?
Since I’m just getting started, I’m collecting lots of “firsts” right now like creating my first classroom for all of my sweet students to soon enjoy. My family has been coming throughout this summer and helping and it is truly one of the most special things. One teaching memory that stands out to me is working with small groups during my internship. It was such a joy to see how far students progressed from when I started small groups and when we finished.
What do you like to do when you’re not at school?
Outside of school, I love spending quality time with my family. Family plays a central role in my life, and I cherish every moment we share together. I believe that my strong connection to family will help me create a classroom environment where students feel supported, valued, and truly part of a caring community—like a family.
What’s something your students or coworkers might be surprised to learn about you?
Something my students and coworkers might be surprised to learn about me is that I love baking — it’s my way of being creative outside the classroom.
Do you have a favorite children’s book or quote about learning?
It’s truly difficult to pick just one favorite! I’m a passionate lover of children’s books because I believe children’s literature holds timeless lessons that resonate with readers of all ages—from the youngest listeners to adults. These stories spark imagination, teach empathy, and offer valuable insights that enrich our understanding of the world. If I had to pick just one, it would be “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein—a beautiful, timeless story about unconditional love, generosity, and the importance of selflessness. This book reminds us all, no matter our age, about the power of giving and the deep bonds that connect us.
What’s one goal you have for your first year at Meadow View?
My biggest goal for my first year at Meadow View is to create a joyful and inclusive classroom where every child feels safe, valued, and excited to learn. I want to build strong relationships with my students and their families so we can work together to help each child grow and succeed.
What makes you feel most encouraged or supported at work?
I feel most encouraged when I’m surrounded by kind, collaborative teammates who cheer each other on and share their wisdom. A simple smile, a note of encouragement, or a shared laugh makes all the difference—and I already feel that kind of support here at Meadow View!
