principal

Meadow View Elementary is excited to officially welcome Mrs. Amanda Harvie as our new principal, starting July 1. While she’s stepping into a new role, Mrs. Harvie is already a familiar face—she’s been part of our school family since 2021, serving as assistant principal. Her deep love for Meadow View and strong relationships with students, staff, and families make this a natural and exciting next step.

We asked Mrs. Harvie to share her thoughts as she takes on her new role:

What are you most excited about as you become principal?

“I’m thrilled to continue the hard work that’s been going on here, even before I arrived. I’ve learned so much from our faculty, staff, and Mrs. Brakefield, and I’m excited to build on the strong foundation of high expectations at Meadow View. We truly have the best students, faculty, and staff, and I want to continue growing together!”

How has being assistant principal prepared you for this role?

“Mrs. Brakefield is the epitome of a transformational leader—she’s been training me since day one. I’ve worked hard to build relationships with our students, families, and staff. Meadow View is a special place filled with the best people, and I feel honored to be part of it.”

What are your goals for your first year as principal?

“I want to foster an inclusive and supportive environment where both students and staff can thrive. With the support of our community, we’ll continue to grow a school that is both academically rigorous and deeply caring.”

What do you love most about being part of Meadow View?

“This is my happy place. The heart of this school is the people—students, faculty, and staff—who pour into children every single day. Everyone here works hard to make sure each student feels seen, supported, and valued. Leading this school is a meaningful opportunity because I want the very best for every single child here.”

Are there any traditions or values at Meadow View you hope to continue?

“I want to keep building on the culture of support between staff and families. At the elementary level, we lay the foundation for lifelong learning, and I never want us to lose sight of how important that is.”

How do you hope to support teachers, students, and families?

“My time as assistant principal really shaped how I show up for others. I want everyone to know my door is open and I value collaboration.”

What might students be surprised to learn about you?

“I love being outdoors and creative—on the weekends, you’ll find me paddleboarding or swimming with my family, working in my woodshop, or taking care of my garden.”

What are your favorite ways to connect with students?

“My favorite part of the day is greeting students in the morning and saying goodbye in the afternoon. I try to know every student by name. I love visiting classrooms and hearing about what’s going on in their lives—this age group shares everything, and that helps build strong connections.”

Is there a quote or person who inspires your leadership style?

“C.S. Lewis said, ‘Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work.’ That really speaks to me. At the elementary level, we have a huge responsibility in shaping each child’s future. I’m also inspired by the motto of Alabaster City Schools: ‘Champions of our Future.’ That’s exactly what we’re building here.”

What can families and staff expect from you as a leader?

“They can expect a leader who is dedicated to working alongside our amazing staff and families to create a culture where our students grow as both learners and leaders.”

Any final thoughts for the Meadow View community?

“I’m so grateful for this opportunity and ready to get to work. It’s an honor to lead this incredible school.”

We’re thrilled to have Mrs. Harvie in this new role and look forward to the great things ahead for Meadow View under her leadership.
