We are thrilled to introduce a new initiative at MVES: the Weekly Staff Spotlight! Each week, we will randomly select one staff member to answer a series of fun questions, allowing our school community to get to know them better. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents, students, and fellow staff members to connect with the incredible people who make MVES so special. We invite you to join us in following along each week!
This week, we have 3rd grade teacher, Ms. Abbie Lavender!
1. What inspired you to pursue a career in education?
I have always had a heart to serve and help people. Through my years in school, several teachers along the way made life long impressions on me, even when they were unaware of it. I knew I was called to do the same, to love, care and impact as many little hearts as I can.
2. What’s your favorite part of working with students?
The memories we make! I love seeing their faces light up when something makes sense, hearing their laughs, surprising them and watching their confidence grow through all they do. Praying these memories stick with them as I know they will for me!
3. If you weren’t in education, what do you think you’d be doing?
I believe I would be a veterinarian or work in the animal field somewhere. I worked as a technician for years before teaching and it always has a special place in my heart!
4. What’s one thing you love most about our school community?
That we’re truly a big family! This community has made me feel so loved, welcomed and supported through all I do. Always lifting one another up when they need it most!
5. Is there a particular moment in the school year you look forward to each year?
The holidays and the fun memories I get to make with my students. I love the holiday season and seeing their joy and excitement light up the room!
6. Do you have any hobbies or hidden talents?
In my free time I love to read a good book. A hidden talent I have is painting and drawing.
7. What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?
I am the baby of a big and blended family with 7 siblings total. I also have helped with surgeries and/or procedures on many different pets/strays in need.
8. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would travel to Greece or Italy, I have always loved it and dreamed of exploring the towns, tasting all the new foods and sight seeing.
9. What’s a food you can never say no to?
Pasta or movie theater popcorn with chocolate!
