ACS — The online application process for free and reduced meals is now open. Alabaster City Schools (ACS) asks families to fill out or renew these applications before the 2026-2027 School Year begins.

School leaders say completing this form is incredibly important for families who qualified last year, because those benefits do not roll over automatically. ACS encourages all families to apply as soon as possible at myschoolapps.com/Application, even if they are not completely sure they qualify.

While the program ensures that students receive healthy, balanced breakfasts and lunches to help them focus in class, school leaders emphasize that approved applications offer additional benefits for families and their students. State and federal programs use the number of completed applications to decide how much extra money our local schools get. That means a single application brings resources to Alabaster that go way beyond the lunchroom.

According to school officials, filling out these forms helps the district secure funding for several important areas:

  • More Money for Classrooms: Higher participation numbers mean more state and federal funding for our schools. This money goes directly into classrooms to help buy textbooks, hire extra learning support staff, and keep class sizes smaller.

  • Better Technology: The government uses these numbers to give out technology grants. This funding pays for student Chromebooks, school Wi-Fi upgrades, and programs that help families get discounted internet at home.

  • College Application Waivers: High school seniors from qualifying families can apply to hundreds of colleges and universities for free, saving them from expensive application fees.

  • Cheaper Test Fees: Qualifying students can get big discounts or completely wave the fees for major tests like the ACT, SAT, and Advanced Placement (AP) exams. It also opens doors for special college scholarships.

District officials want families to know that the entire process is completely private. By law, your household income information is kept safe and secure. In the cafeteria line, the computer system keeps every student's status invisible. No teachers, staff, or other students will ever know who receives free or reduced meals and who pays full price.

At the same time, the district's payment website is ready for the new year. Parents can visit myschoolbucks.com to add money to their child's regular account. Students use these funds to buy extra snacks, a la carte items, or standard paid meals during lunchtime.
