Alabaster City Schools proudly recognized a group of outstanding employees and coaches during the March 16th Board of Education meeting, celebrating excellence across the district.

Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers and the ACS Board of Education recognized individuals who go above and beyond in their roles to support students, staff, and school communities.

The 2025–2026 Support Personnel of the Year honorees included LaTara Sumerlin (CVES), Zulma Vargas (MVES), Nikki Elliott (TIS), Sara Barnett (TMS), Frank Calma (THS), and Jasper Carden (Central Office). Zulma Vargas was named the overall district winner for Support Personnel of the Year.

In transportation, Jessica Mitchell (CVES), Karen Mickle (MVES), Tiera Turner (TIS), Jason Carter (TMS), and Perry Broadnax (THS) were recognized as the 2025–2026 Transportation Personnel of the Year, highlighting their commitment to safely serving students each day.

The district also honored its 2025–2026 Child Nutrition Program (CNP) Personnel of the Year, including Sharon Gentry (CVES), Sandra Lovett (MVES), Michelle Burnette (TIS), Tabatha Harris (TMS), and Lisa Ruackman (THS). Sandra Lovett was named the overall district winner for CNP Personnel of the Year.

Additionally, Karen Snyder was recognized as the Elementary Counselor of the Year, and RaTonya Mosley was named Secondary Counselor of the Year, celebrating their dedication to supporting students’ academic success and well-being.

In addition to staff recognitions, the Thompson High School football coaches were honored for their remarkable achievement in winning the AHSAA Class 7A State Championship. The Warriors have now competed in eight consecutive state championship games, securing six titles during that span, including back-to-back championships.

These recognitions reflect the commitment to excellence that defines Alabaster City Schools. From the classroom to transportation, nutrition services to counseling, and athletics, each honoree plays a vital role in supporting student success and strengthening the district as a whole.
