Girls Rock STEM Club

Girls from across Alabaster City Schools and neighboring school districts gathered at Thompson High School for the annual Girls Rock STEM Conference, an event designed to introduce students in grades 6–12 to the many opportunities available in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Organized by Ms. Shana Webb, the event connected students with professionals working in a variety of STEM fields. Throughout the day, students heard firsthand about career paths, educational journeys, and real-world applications of STEM from women who are making an impact in their industries.

Guest speakers included Dr. Whitney Turner, Dr. Lilian Matthews, Macy Sanders, Molly Kuzmich, Kristen Bates, and Brandy Snipes. Each speaker shared insights about their careers and encouraged students to explore their interests in STEM fields.

Students also participated in hands-on activities and interactive sessions that allowed them to see how STEM concepts are used in real-world careers. From medicine and engineering to forensics and scientific research, the event highlighted the wide range of opportunities available to students who pursue STEM pathways.

Girls Rock STEM Day aims to inspire young women to see themselves represented in these growing fields and to help them begin imagining future careers they may not have previously considered. By connecting students with role models and providing engaging learning experiences, the event helps build confidence and curiosity among the next generation of innovators.

Alabaster City Schools would also like to extend a special thank you to the many individuals who helped make this event possible, including Dr. DeRamus, Mr. Hazelrig, Mr. Bogart, Mrs. Cooper, Mrs. Roskam, Mrs. Smart, Mrs. Washington, Mary Busbee, Belinda, Melissa Webb, Mrs. Rose, Mrs. Harbison, Mrs. Smitherman, Mr. Thigpen, and Mrs. Bogart. Their support, planning, and dedication helped create an inspiring day of learning for students across the district.
