(ACS) - Mrs. Jennifer Cofer has been named as the new Chief Student Services Officer for Alabaster City Schools.

Cofer, an Alabaster native and graduate of Thompson High School, comes to ACS from Shelby County Schools, where she has served as Student Services Supervisor since 2018. Prior to the Student Services realm, Cofer held a number of posts in both the public and private sectors. She worked in corporate communications for EBSCO before pivoting to education. Cofer taught in Pinellas County (FL) Schools, Baldwin County (AL) Schools, and Shelby County Schools before landing an administrative position as Assistant Principal of Helena Middle School. She was also the Gifted Education Lead Teacher for Shelby County Schools.

“I’m humbled and excited to join the ACS team. My passion has always been school safety. My role covers everything from attendance, discipline, custody, zoning - all the ways we can serve students, faculty, staff, and families in our community,” Cofer said. “It’s great to return home to Alabaster, which has changed a lot over the years, but the Champion mindset remains the same!”

Cofer holds an EdS degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a Master’s in Gifted Education from the University of South Alabama, a Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of Montevallo, a Bachelor’s in Communications/Journalism from the University of Montevallo, and earned a teaching certificate from the University of South Florida.

Jennifer Cofer’s husband, Buddy, played football for the historic 1982 Thompson Warriors Championship Team. Her mother, Ann Clere, now retired, taught at Meadow View Elementary School.

Cofer’s first official day with Alabaster City Schools is February 2, 2026.
