Thompson High School continues to connect students with outstanding higher education opportunities through its ongoing series of private college admissions visits. With dozens of colleges and universities scheduled to stop by Thompson this school year, students are gaining invaluable insights into what life after high school could look like.
This week, students had the chance to meet with representatives from Mississippi State University and New York University — two institutions with very different, yet equally exciting opportunities.
Mississippi State University admissions counselor Avery Braddock drew a strong turnout, as always, with students eager to learn more about the competitive programs, affordability, and welcoming “hometown” campus atmosphere for which MSU is known.
Joining the lineup for the first time was New York University, represented by Edinam Eshietedoho, Assistant Director of Admissions. NYU gave students a glimpse into life at a dynamic, global research university located in the heart of New York City.
While the settings may differ — MSU’s welcoming campus in Starkville and NYU’s vibrant urban environment — both universities have been home to Thompson alumni who found success and a sense of belonging.
Earlier this week, THS also hosted Florida Polytechnic University, Florida’s only all-STEM public university, with admissions counselor Aaron Belt sharing highlights about programs of study, the Lakeland campus, and opportunities in Florida’s High-Tech Corridor. Students also welcomed University of Chicago admissions counselor Samara Wilson, who discussed the school’s renowned academic rigor and history of innovation.
These visits are part of Thompson High School’s commitment to helping students make informed decisions about their futures by providing direct access to a wide spectrum of colleges and universities. Meeting face-to-face with admissions counselors allows students to ask questions, compare options, and take meaningful steps toward their postsecondary goals.
Save the Date: Senior Night + College/Career/Military Fair
In addition to these visits, Thompson High School is preparing to host its Senior Night and College/Career/Military Fair on Thursday, September 18, 2025. The evening will begin at 6:00 PM in the Performing Arts Center, where more than 500 seniors and their parents will hear important details about senior year activities, the financial aid process, and post-graduate opportunities.
Following the presentation, the College/Career/Military Fair will take place in the Auxiliary Gym at 7:00 PM. Colleges, universities, and organizations are invited to attend and meet with students and families. Guests are asked to arrive by 6:30 PM to be ready to greet attendees when the fair begins.
Admissions representatives are also encouraged to schedule in-person recruiting room visits during the school day for a more informal opportunity to connect with students, answer questions, and share about programs, campus life, and opportunities.
