Shelby County, AL – The Shelby County Chamber hosted its annual Student & Educator of the Year Awards Luncheon, celebrating some of the brightest and most dedicated individuals from schools across the county. Among the top honorees were two outstanding students from Thompson High School: Javier Soto-Balcarcel and Nina Lin.

Javier Soto-Balcarcel was named Shelby County’s 2024-2025 Overall Winner for “Career Tech Standout Students,” a prestigious recognition for his achievements and dedication in the field of career and technical education. Fellow student Nina Lin was honored as a "2025 Shelby County Distinguished Student"

The luncheon was not only a celebration of student success but also a time to recognize the educators shaping future leaders. This year’s "Teachers of the Year" from Alabaster City Schools were acknowledged for their exceptional commitment to education and their students:

  • Creek View Elementary: Morgan Quisenberry

  • Meadow View Elementary: Olivia Cushing

  • Thompson Intermediate School: Christy O’Dell

  • Thompson Middle School: Kim Miranda

  • Thompson High School: Avery Horton
