ACS superintendent appointed to AASA National Board

Alabaster, Ala. – Dr. L. Wayne Vickers, Superintendent of Alabaster City Schools in Alabaster, Ala., has been elected to serve a three-year term on the executive committee of AASA, The School Superintendents Association.
Founded in 1865 and headquartered in Alexandria, Va., AASA serves as the nation’s premier organization for public school district leadership, representing thousands of school system leaders throughout the U.S.
The 22-member committee, elected by AASA’s governing board, represents each region of the country. The committee meets quarterly and conducts the ongoing business of the organization. Vickers has been a member of AASA for more than 16 years, and a member of AASA’s governing board since 2018. He has also been a member of the School Superintendents of Alabama (SSA) Board of Directors since 2012.
“I look forward to bringing the variety of my experience in thirty-two years as a teacher, administrator, and superintendent in public school districts throughout Alabama to the executive committee,” said Vickers. “My last sixteen years as superintendent, in particular, I believe further prepares me for this national role. I am honored to serve on this committee in order to represent Region 5 members of AASA.”
Vickers was honored as an Alabama Superintendent of the Year (District I) Finalist in 2011. He was also the recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Award presented by the University of Alabama College of Education in 2018.
New executive committee members will serve a three-year term which starts July 1, 2023.
