THS theatre honored for winning slew of awards

ALABASTER – By the time the Thompson High School Theatre Department finished collecting all of its awards at the recent Walter Trumbauer Theatre State Festival, there wasn’t much left.

The festival, which was held on the campus of Troy University from Nov. 29-Dec. 2, featured scholastic theatre departments from all over the state. THS Theatre received excellent rankings on four out of 27 individual events at the festival, while the school earned superior ratings on the remaining 23 events.

“To earn superior ratings on 23 of 27 events, that’s pretty awesome,” Alabaster School Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers said during a Jan. 14 Board of Education meeting.

During the School Board meeting, all members of the THS theatre department who won awards at the festival and their teacher, Jane Ganey, earned praise and recognition for their achievements.

The following students won awards in the following categories during the state theatre festival:

-Brianna Bramlett and Caroline Simmons – Novice – Duet Reader’s Theatre Dramatic
-Jessica Howard and Tate Williams – Novice – Duet Reader’s Theatre Comedic

-Meteor Boy cast members Caroline Simmons (Karen Shaw) and Rand Willis (Fred Shaw) were placed on the All Star-Cast for the state of Alabama.
