Mrs. Liza Abbott

I have been in love with sign language since 5th grade when we signed a portion of our graduation song. I took American Sign Language in high school and was one of three students chosen to sign the graduation song for our graduating class in 1996. I have a passion and am a strong advocate for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. I began teaching in January of 2002.

I was born in Alabama and have lived here my entire life. I graduated from the University of Montevallo with my Bachelor's Degree in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. I am currently working on my Master's degree in Instructional Leadership from the University of West Alabama. I taught in public school for five years before transferring to the Alabama School for the Deaf (ASD) where I taught both middle school and high school for twelve and a half years. In 2019, ASD was the first and only Deaf school in the state to participate in the Junior United Nations of Alabama (JUNA) representing the nation of Singapore. We competed with 49 other hearing schools within the state of Alabama. I am excited to begin a new journey as a Thompson Warrior and sharing my passion for American Sign Language (ASL) with my students.
