Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Lisa Loyd

This is my second year as a Warrior and I love it! Teaching with the THS staff and high school students is already marked with moments to treasure.  I teach Spanish 2, 3, AP,  Advanced English 11, and I sponsor the Spanish National Honor Society.  Before coming to Thompson, I taught for West Chicago, Morgan Township (in Indiana) Gadsden City, Jefferson County, and Tuscaloosa City.

Educational Experience: I lived in Chicago for 22 years and graduated with a BA in English from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. I received a Spanish endorsement from Auburn University and a M.Ed in Spanish for Secondary Education from the University of Alabama. I studied abroad in Mexico and Spain, but the best experience was leading two student tours to Spain, Italy, and France.

Leadership positions: I am currently on the board as Parliamentarian for the Alabama World Language Association and serving as an instructor for the Weekend Immersed in Language Development.  In the past, I served 10 years as editor for the AWLA Newsletter and as Past President for AATSP (American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese).  In 2009, I received a nomination for the SCOLT Educator of Excellence award.

Family:   I am married to my best friend, and we have two daughters, a son- in- law, and a large Boxer Hound. We enjoy spending time together!
