Dr. Latanza M. Harrison has been the Chief Human Resources Officer for Alabaster City Schools since 2020. She coordinates and directs the system’s personnel services for approximately 871 employees. In 2013, she joined the ACS family as the Coordinator of Federal Programs serving the three Elementary Schools in the district. In 2014, she became the Coordinator of Human Resources for the district.
Prior to her experience as the Coordinator of Human Resources for Alabaster City Schools, she served in the area of Federal Programs and Human Resources Administration as a Director of Federal Programs and Director of Human Resources. Her role as a Middle School Specialist for the Alabama State Department of Education resulted in technical assistance and professional development training opportunities for school staff statewide and resulted in establishing the first statewide SREB pilot of MMGM schools. She has also served as a middle school assistant principal, community college adjunct faculty member, classroom teacher of science, math and computer-based reading and mathematics instruction.
She received her doctorate from Auburn University in Educational Leadership and Technology. She also has a Master’s in Mathematics Education and a Bachelor’s in Mathematics and Biology Education. In 2017, Dr. Harrison received her Certification as a Professional Human Capital Leader in Education (pHCLE). She received Leadership Awards from the National and Alabama Association of Federal Education Program Administrators as well as the Alabama Association of School Personnel Administrators through CLAS. Dr. Harrison is currently the Secretary and Treasurer for the Alabama Association of School Personnel Administrators as well as an active member of the American Association of School Personnel Administrators, the Society of Human Resource Management, the Alabama Society of Human Resource Management and the Birmingham Society of Human Resource Management.
