• Dear parents:

                    Cross country summer conditioning will begin on June 10th. Conditioning will be each morning at 6:00am. On Mondays and Thursdays we will meet at Veteran’s Park in Alabaster near the dog park. On Tuesdays we will practice at practice at Buck Creek Trail (Warrior Park near the train). Wednesdays and Fridays we will practice at THS at the track. On most days conditioning will last until 7:30; although some days will be earlier, and Thursdays may run a bit longer. Those who attend 25 or more practices this summer will automatically be on the team. (Please make sure you sign in at practice.)  Athletes who attend less than 25 practices this summer will need to attend tryouts on August 14th after school. To make the cross country team boys will need to run two miles in under 17 min and girls will need to run two miles in under 19 min.

                    Prior to attending conditioning this summer athletes must have a completed physical form turned into Coach Smart. If you attended physical day through ACS and were cleared, then you do not need to turn in a copy.

                     Official team practice will begin on August 5th.  On August 5th - 7th practice will be at the new TMS from 6am to 7:30 am.  On August 8th we will begin after school practice. After school practice will be from 3:15 until 4:45. Practices will take place around the middle and warrior park. Tryouts will be on August 14th from 3:15 to 4:45. Pick up will be behind the school. Please keep in mind: due to TMS moving buildings and changing all of the school year pick up times and locations are subject to change.

    The cost to run cross country this year will be $110. This covers entry fees, bus fees, t-shirt, and the use of a uniform. In order to expedite paperwork, please check “Yes, my child is participating in athletics” during online registration. This will complete all the forms that are necessary for eligibility. We will have a parent meeting on August 19th 5:00pm @ TMS. We will discuss the upcoming season and hand out schedules.

    Your runner needs a pair of quality (and preferably new) running shoes. Shoes are their only protection from injury. They also should bring a water bottle and a towel to practice.

    To be eligible to participate in AHSAA sports ALL players must complete the NFHS Sportsmanship course. After you have completed the entire NFHS Sportsmanship course PRINT the final certificate and bring it to Coach Scott at Thompson Middle School. No player will be eligible to play in any contest without having completed this assignment.


    To Access the NFHS Sportsmanship course:

    1. Go to: www.nfhslearn.com
    2. Register / create an account, if you’re a first time user. (email / password)
    3. Under COURSES – search for courses - type Sportsmanship
    4. The Sportsmanship elective course should appear
    5. Click the Sportsmanship Course. Click VIEW COURSE
    6. Click Order Course (this is a free course)
    7. Shopping cart – Select the State of Alabama
    8. Click Checkout
    9. Agree to terms, Click Continue

    10.The Order receipt page will appear. On this page there will be a command to view course “click here” (top left paragraph). Click here to begin the course.

     11.Begin the Sportsmanship Course

     12.Complete all chapters and answer the 10 questions to completely finish the program.

    13.Print Certificate

     14.Turn in certificate to Coach.

    ***This course assignment is mandatory and will take about 25 minutes to complete.
