Mrs. Nerissa DeRamus

I grew up in Butler, Alabama (close to Meridian, MS) and attended Choctaw County High School.  I graduated from there and attended college at the University of West Alabama.  I received a  BS and a MAT degree in Biology from UWA, and recently I completed a Biology Ed.S from the University of Alabama.

I then went back home to Butler and taught there for 7 years.  There I had various jobs which included: Head Softball Coach, Assistant Basketball Coach, Science Department Chairperson, Choir Sponsor, Beta Club Sponsor, and Bus Driver.  I taught Advanced Biology, Advanced Anatomy, and General Biology.  It was great to be able to work in my hometown, give back to my community, and work with some greatest teachers I've ever known.

My next job was at Northridge High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where I worked for 4 years.  I really enjoyed my years there, it was a great school with awesome students.  I taught Honors Biology, General Biology, Anatomy, Genetics, Forensics, and Environmental Science.  I was also a Beta Club Sponsor.

This is my 9th year at Thompson High School and I am absolutely thrilled to be a WARRIOR!  I am teaching 9th grade Honors Biology and Dual Enrollment Biology.   Thompson's administration, faculty, staff, parents, and students are amazing and first class.  I truly love this school.

This year I had the honor of receiving the Outstanding Biology Teacher Award for Alabama from the National Association of Biology Teachers.  I am absolutely thrilled to have won this award.  It one of the greatest honors of my teaching career.

So here's a little personal information about me.  I have 2 wonderful children and an amazing husband. My hobbies are tennis, softball, photography, and being a minister of music.

I truly enjoy teaching.  It gives me a chance to engage and impact young lives with knowledge.  I couldn't imagine having another profession.
