Mr. Tym Davis
I was born and raised on a cattle farm in northeast Alabama and I am the first artist and teacher of my family. My father allowed me to explore my creativity as a child and encouraged my imagination whenever he could. As a result, I've been drawing and making things since I could hold a crayon. I have a phenomenally supportive wife and a fantastic son who is exploring his own creativity in different ways.
My college career spans 9 (non-sequential) years. From the University of Montevallo, I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art and a Master of Education in Art Education. The first two years of my college life were spent in an entirely ludicrous endeavor to get an Associates Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. Fortunately, I saw the error of my ways early on and got on the correct path (albeit a rocky and dangerous one) to becoming an artist and a teacher.
Being an artist first, I have had gallery exhibitions in the Huntsville and Birmingham areas. Most recently, I have had an exhibit of my wire sculpture at the Birmingham Museum of Art and am currently showing my work at the Artists Incorporated Gallery.
I didn't originally set out to be a teacher. I knew that I wanted to do something constructive that would be to the benefit of my fellow planet-dwellers, so I blindly set out in the direction of a medical field. It was only after being placed in the role of a teacher on a part-time basis that I knew what I had to do. I have taught art at all levels: pre-k, k-12 and even college. Most summers, I teach at various art camps involving students at all levels. I have been a part of the THS family since 2008, teaching Art 1, Sculpture, Crafts and Surface Design. And sometimes I still get out my crayons...
