Ms. Lori Harnish
I was born in Piedmont, AL. I am the proud mother of two beautiful girls. My oldest daughter is Aubree Gillis Johnson and my youngest is Carolina Gillis, I attend First Presbyterian Church of Alabaster (Cumberland), where I work with the youth group.
I graduated from Piedmont High school as class Salutatorian in 1981. I then went to Jacksonville State University where I graduated in 1985 and received a BS degree in EC/MR K-12. In 1990, I attended Vanderbilt University and earned my MS degree in Early Childhood Special Education.
I began my teaching career in the Shelby County, TN school system. I taught self-contained special education class for children with behavior needs. I worked there for 2 years. After a move to Bolivar, TN, I taught a self-contained class for children with multiple handicaps and a 5k class for at risk kindergarteners until 1990. After receiving a grant to attend graduate school, I took a year off to complete my Masters degree. After completing my degree, I taught a self contained class in the Maury County, TN school system for the 1991-1992 school year, before relocating back home to Alabama. I began teaching for Shelby County, AL in 1992 and worked there until 2012. While teaching in Shelby County, I worked as a preschool special education/ECLIPSE classroom teacher as well as an Itinerant preschool teacher. I taught for Vestavia City Schools from 2012 until 2014. I began working for Alabaster City Schools in the fall of 2014 as a self contained special education preschool teacher. In 2015, our preschool class was changed to an inclusion class, called STARS.
