Mrs. Kathy Owensby

Hi! My name is Mrs. Kathy Owensby.  I live in Calera, Alabama with my sweet husband Kenny and my shorkie Peanut and my striated boxer...Nova.  I have always known that I wanted to be an educator. I started out in high school working with 4th and 5th graders at Vestavia Hills Extended Care and worked there for 12 years.

While working at the Extended Care, I graduated from Vestavia Hills High School and then went on and got my undergraduate in  early childhood/elementary education (K-6th) at the University of Montevallo. Then, I went on to receive my master's in elementary education at the University of Montevallo in 1993.  After I received my undergraduate degree, I  worked with severely special education students for 4 years at Pizitz Middle School. Then, I began substituting for Shelby County Schools.  I have been teaching 2nd grade for 25 years now and love every minute of it!  I enjoy spending time with my husband and love animals! I am a huge Auburn fan! My favorite hobby is reading and making crafts.
