Dr. Linda Hogue
My professional education began at Middle Tennessee State University in 1974. After my freshman year, I transferred to Eastern Kentucky University where I graduated in 1978. Upon moving to the Birmingham area, I decided to continue my education at the University of Montevallo and graduated with a Master of Education degree in 1994. I continued my education at the University of Alabama, Birmingham and finished my doctoral program in Early Childhood Education / Elementary Focus in 2008. I recently added a Master's Degree in Instructional Leadership from the University of Montevallo in 2017.
My experience as a teacher began in Dalton, Georgia where I taught fifth grade for 3 years. I left Dalton to go to Weisbaden, Germany as the wife of a second lieutenant in the army. I obtained a job with the Department of Defense Schools teaching fifth grade in Mainz, Germany. After two years, my husband and I moved to Fort Sill, Oklahoma where I taught basic skills in language arts and reading to soldiers trying to obtain a GED and/or higher rank. We left the army and moved to Mobile, Alabama. I was able to obtain temporary positions teaching first, third, and fourth grades. A change in employment moved our family to Alabaster, Alabama in 1986. I taught one year of third grade at Kingwood Christian School and then began teaching first grade for Shelby County Schools in 1989 (Thompson Elementary School). I transferred to Meadow View Elementary School in 2000, where I have taught first grade for 17 years.
As the daughter of a road construction worker, I spent my childhood moving from place to place with the building of the interstate highway system. We moved many times as I grew up, hooking our mobile home to the back of the truck or calling a mover (when we moved into a larger mobile home). I was actually born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee although my parents were living in North Port, Alabama near Tuscaloosa at the time. My mom needed family support to care for my older sister all of my extended family members lived in that area (most still do). I am the middle child in a family of three sisters, and we still enjoy spending time together although we all live in different states. I graduated from A. C. Reynolds High School in Asheville, North Carolina.
I have been married 37 years, and I have two children, one son-in-law, and three granddaughters. I have been teaching for over 33 years total and I have taught in Alabama 28+ years.
