     HONORS                        ALL PRIVILEGES, CONSIDERATION AND TRANSITION ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS

     Students will earn points for the following behaviors: speaking appropriately, following directions, positive adult and peer interactions, respecting property, ignoring inappropriate behavior, remaining in assigned location, completing assigned tasks, and demonstrating individual goals from IEP addressing emotional/behavioral issues.

     

     STUDENTS WILL DROP TO “ORIENTATION LEVEL” FOR THE FOLLOWING VIOLATIONS: EARLY WARNING, SUSPENSION, AND INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR THAT THE STAFF HAS WARNED THE STUDENT ABOUT INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO FIGHTING. STUDENTS MAY DROP LEVELS FOR REPEATED BUT LESS SEVERE BEHAVIOR AT THE DISCRETION OF STAFF. IF A STUDENT IS SUCCESSFUL IN GENERAL EDUCATION CLASSES, PARTICIPATION MAY BE CONTINUED UNLESS STUDENT DROPS BELOW LEVEL 2.                                                                                      

    The Thompson High School Level System is designed to provide parents, staff and students with clear markers of changes in behavior. The Level System is based on 5 levels of functioning within the school setting.

    ·         Orientation Level

    ·         Level I

    ·         Level II

    ·         Level III

    ·         Honors Level

    ORIENTATION LEVEL

    Students entering Thompson High School ED unit will be placed on Orientation Level. Students on Orientation Level must earn at least 60 out of 100 points per week and maintain a 60 or higher average to be successful.

    LEVEL I

    Students may apply for Level I after successfully meeting the following pre-application conditions:

    5 days successful on Orientation Level

    Performing Two witnessed acts of kindness

    Completion of a one page summary of "Why I should be on Level I" with assistance from their Teacher/Paraprofessional.

    Level requirements are:

    School Behavior (At least 70 points weekly in the following areas)
    Uses appropriate speech
    Follows directions
    Appropriate adult interactions
    Respects property
    Ignores inappropriate behavior
    Positive peer interactions

     

    Academic Progress
    Maintains at least a 65 average
    Demonstrates a willingness to learn
    Demonstrates respect for others in the classroom
    Prepared for class

    Social Skills
    Respects and responds appropriately to authority
    Maintains an open-mind to new ways of handling problems
    Communicates a complaint appropriately
    Demonstrates good manners
    Demonstrates good sportsmanship
    Behaves responsibly in social situations

    Once all items on the list are completed, the student may submit their Level Application to the Teacher for approval.

    LEVEL II

    Students may apply for Level II after successfully completing the following pre-application conditions.

    2 weeks successful on Level I

    Successful completion of a 15 minute community service project

    One page summary on "Why I should be on Level II" with assistance from their counselor.

    Meet with Teacher to discuss your summary and other expectations.

    School Behavior (80 points weekly in the following areas)
    Uses appropriate speech
    Follows directions
    Appropriate adult interaction
    Respects property
    Ignores inappropriate behavior
    Positive peer interaction

     Academic Progress
    Maintains at least a 70 average
    Demonstrates a willingness to learn
    Prepared for class

    Social Skills
    No major problems in class or on bus
    Demonstrates effective problem solving skills
    Accepts responsibility for actions
    Keeps an open-mind to new ways of doing things
    Demonstrates good sportsmanship
    Relates to adults and peers in a positive manner

    LEVEL III

    Students may apply for Level III after successfully completing the following pre-application conditions.

    2 weeks successful on Level II

    Successful completion of a 30 minute community service activity

    One page written summary of "Why I should be on Level III" to be completed with assistance from their counselor.

    Meet with Teacher to discuss summary and other expectations.

    School Behavior (90 points weekly in the following areas)
    Uses appropriate speech

    Appropriate adult interactions
    Respects property
    Ignores inappropriate behavior
    Positive peer interaction

     Academic Progress
    Maintains at least a 75 average
    Demonstrates a willingness to learn
    Prepared for class

    Abides by school's rules and staff requests
    Handles problem situations responsibly
    Communicates feelings appropriately
    Demonstrates empathy
    Keeps an open-mind when dealing with new situations
    Interacts appropriately with others

    HONORS LEVEL

    Students may apply for Honors Level when the following pre-application conditions are met:

    2 weeks successful on Level III

    Successful completion of an approved community service activity (generally must be completed in the community)

    One page summary on "Why I should be on Honors Level" completed with assistance from their counselor

    Meet with Teacher to discuss summary and other expectations.

    Maintains at least a 80 average

    CONSIDERATION FOR TRANSITION AFTER SUCCESSFULLY

    MAINTAINING HONORS LEVEL FOR 2 WEEKS.

     LOSS OF LEVEL

    The teacher may drop the student to a lower level if a significant incident has occurred.
