Sixth Grade Social Studies: American History starting with the Industrial Revolution

Grading Policy
-
Grading Per Nine Weeks: Test/quizzes 60%, Teacher Choice 30%, and Homework 10%.
The nine-week average is 90% of the current grade and the nine-week exam is 10% of the grade.

Late Work: Assignments not submitted on time will result in the student receiving a 20% grade reduction from the final grade earned for each day if the assignment is late.

Make-Up Work: Make-up work will be placed in the make-up folder with the student’s name on it. Make-up work must be turned in within 3 days of returning to school from an excused absence. Students must get with me to make arrangements to make up the test.
Textbooks
United States History: Civil War to the Present, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
A class copy will be provided for all students to use in the classroom. A PDF version will be downloaded onto Chromebooks for use at home without Wifi. If a student wants/needs a textbook, one will be issued to the student to keep at home for the duration of the school year.
Textbooks will be collected at the end of the year. If the textbook is lost or damaged you will need to pay for the damages or to replace the textbook.
The course will include supplemental reading from primary and secondary resources. These may include journals, videos, historical documents, and any other materials that will aid in student understanding of the course.
Class Rules

Be respectful: Students must be respectful to the teacher, each other, and the classroom. This includes talking while the teacher is talking, making inappropriate comments, disrupting other students, and leaving trash on the floor or desk.

Be responsible: Complete assignments, turn in assignments, and be prepared for the test.

Be ready: Students need to be in their seat immediately after the bell rings with their binder and pencil on their desk ready to learn.
Class Procedures

Remain seated until I dismiss the class. The bell doesn’t dismiss the class.

Students must put their name on their papers. All no name papers will be available for students to go through to be claimed. They will write their name 25 times and turn the paper in to get the grade. Hopefully this will help them to remember the importance of writing their name on their paper.

Classroom Supplies-All supplies will be used for academic classes, not just social studies.
Binder, paper, pencils, pencil pouch, colored pencils, and earbuds or headset.
