I was born and raised in North Florida. I enjoyed Spanish from the time I was in High School, even serving as President of the Spanish Club. I attended Florida State University (Go Noles) and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts then a Master of Arts in Spanish. During my time as an undergraduate, I participated in Florida State's study abroad program in Spain studying and traveling during the summer of 1996. It was a wonderful experience and I always encourage my students to study abroad when offered the chance. My first year teaching in Georgia, I served as a translator and chaperoned a local youth group on their mission trip to Venezuela. I have also traveled to Honduras, Belize, Spain and multiple times to Mexico.
I have taught Spanish in the public school system or college for over 15 years. I did take some time off to spend time with my children when they were younger. During that time I volunteered teaching mini Spanish lessons to my childrens' elementary classrooms. Also, I have worked with iSpeak teaching after school classes and preschool classes throughout the Birmingham and Shelby County areas. I love teaching and strive to make my class a place where students are engaged and active participants in their own language learning.
I live in North Shelby County with my husband, 3 children (15, 12 and 10), our two rescue cats and our Corgi puppy. I enjoy reading, spending time with my family, and any time at the beach (Florida girl). I look forward to another year teaching Spanish at Thompson High School.
