Mr. Steve Benton

After obtaining my Bachelor's degree from Auburn University, I was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army Medical Service Corps and began my career at Fort Hood, Texas.  While at Fort Hood, I was deployed to Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield and Storm in 1990-91.  During the Gulf War I served as a Medical Platoon Leader for for a tank battalion in the 2nd Armored Division. I left the Army in 1994 after obtaining the rank of Captain.

In 2000, after 6 years in the corporate world, I returned to school to obtain a Masters in Education at the University of Montevallo.  I finished my degree in 2002 and was hired at Thompson Middle School teaching 8th grade Social Studies.  I transferred to the 6th grade in 2006, and moved to Thompson Sixth Grade Center when it was established in 2009. I am excited to be beginning my 16th year of teaching in Alabaster.
